JOB STANNARD, Sr. was born in Saybrook, Conn. in 1761. Date of birth is established by his own hand on his Revolutionary War Pension Application, S17700.

He served in the Revolutionary War as he received a pension. His pension application was prepared in Sept 1832 by the Rev Sylvester Selden. (His grandson born in 1821 was named Selden Stannard.) In the 1840 census, enumerators were supposed to list pensioners by name, which not all of them did.

His pension application reads in part:
That he was born at Saybrook in the county of Middlesex of the state of Connecticut on the 20th day of Oct 1761 and that he has lived in said town ever since. That there is a record of his birth in the family Bible of his late Father, which Bible is now in the possession of his sister at Killingworth but that there is no record of his life in any other place that he knows of. ...that he joined in the fall of 1779 in the town of Killingworth a town that joins Saybrook in the West in this state. He joined his regiment in New Haven. The company of Capt Wares of Guilford.
