US Congressman from North Carolina. Born in the town of Faison, which his family had founded in the late 1700s, he studied medicine at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville and at New York Polyclinic before returning home as a practicing physician in 1885. He took an active interest in Democratic politics and was a member of his party's State and County Executive Committees from 1898 to 1906. In 1910 he was elected to the first of two terms in the US Congress, representing North Carolina's 3rd District, and served from 1911 to 1915. He declined to seek a third term in 1914. Six weeks after leaving office, Faison shot himself. He was reportedly despondent over failing health.
