Alma Hortense Black Parr, formerly of Berkshire Place Apts., Greer, widow of Garnett A. Parr, died November 11, 2009 at Magnolia Manor.
Born on May 22, 1911 in Habersham County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late John A. and Lucy Childs Black. She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Southside Baptist Church Greer.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Parr Simmons; and a son, Bobby (Linda) Parr, all of Greer; a sister, Lola (Jim) Bonner of Portsmouth, Va.; six grandchildren, Shelby Simmons (Keith) Thomason, Tommy (Patty) Simmons, Robin Parr (Joe) Butler, and Doyle Bramblette, all of Greer, and Doris (Don) Alexander and Earl (Linda) Bramblette of Taylors; seven great-grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) Thomason of Greenwood, S.C., Scott Thomason, Brent (Melisa) Thomason, Thomas Simmons, Patrick Simmons, Chelsea Butler and Zachary Butler, all of Greer; and five great-great-grandchildren, Josh Thomason, Jessica Thomason, Ty Thomason of Greenwood, S.C., Drew Thomason of Wichita Falls, Texas and Daniel Thomason of Greer.
Mrs. Parr was predeceased by one grandson, Timmy Simmons; two daughters, Lillie Ruth Bramblette and Betty Williams; two sisters, Birdie Crawford and Ruby Wilson; and one brother, Clarence Black.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13, 2009, at 4 p.m. at Wood Mortuary conducted by Dr. Wayne Dickard. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Mortuary.
Honorary escorts will be the members of the Gleaners Sunday School class of Southside Baptist Church and Lewis Taylor.
The family is at home of the son, 111 Harris Drive, Greer, S.C.
