Vestin John Mitschke was born on September 13, 1928 in Serbin, Texas to Johnnie T. & Marie Louise (Mertink) Mitschke. Mr. Mitschke passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Christopher House in Austin. He was baptized on September 16, 1928 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas by Rev. Hermann Schmidt and confirmed on March 24, 1942 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, Texas by Rev. Paul Eifert. His confirmation verse was Psalm 143:10 "Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy spirit is good, lead me into the land of the uprightness".

He served his country as a U.S. Marine and received his Honorable Discharge on November 20, 1952 having obtained the rank of Private First Class. Vestin was united in marriage to Alma Katherine Green on April 24, 1953 at the First Evangelical Church in Houston, Texas by Pastor D. Baltzer. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Vesta Kay and John Jeffrey.

He was a farmer and rancher and a retired service station owner. Vestin was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he had been part of the Men's Club. He also did maintenance work on the fire trucks for the South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Vestin enjoyed fishing, hunting and making barbeque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie & Marie Mitschke; his wife, Alma Mitschke; his daughter, Vesta Kay West and a sister, Hildegard Krause.

Vestin is survived by his son, John Jeffrey Mitschke & his wife, Kathy of Cedar Creek; three grandchildren, Amber McMorrow of Round Rock, Crystal Ross of Cedar Creek and April McMorrow of Minnesota; two great grandsons, Jayden Ross of Cedar Creek and Jacob McMorrow of Minnesota; two sisters, Hattie Schautschick of Serbin and Sophie & Marvin Pampell of Giddings as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Eaton, James Eaton, John Krause, Russell Richards, James Krause, Kenneth Krause, Herbert Schautschick Jr. and Kermit Schautschick.

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 69, Warda, Texas 78960.

Visitation 10 a.m. Friday, Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, Giddings. Services 10 a.m. Saturday, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Warda with Rev. Paul Hartfield officiating. Burial Old Holy Cross Cemetery, Warda.
