GEORGETOWN, October I7th Late last evening Wm. Ganong was shot and fatally wounded at Wirt's ranch, a few miles above Georgetown, by a man named Madden. It appears there was a dispute between them in regard to the ownership of a ranch. Madden has not been arrested yet, and at last accounts Ganong was still alive. ... LATER— William Ganong died to-day. At 3 o'clock Madden was still at large. The Sheriff, two constables and some citizens are hunting him. It is scarcely probable he can escape. The whole transaction is regarded as a cold-blooded murder. After shooting Ganong he tried to kill young Hubrey, a boy who was with Ganong, and the only witness. The boy only escaped by the fleetness of his mule. Ganong was about sixty years of age and much respected.
