Death of Mrs. Will J. Huff

From Saturday’s Daily

Mrs. Will J. Huff died at her home, corner of North Church and Marietta streets in this city, at 12:40 p.m. Friday, aged 27 years. She had been sick less than a week. She had a severe case of pleuro-pneumonia, complicated by heart failure, and the skill of physicians could not save her.

Her maiden name was Cora Pitts. She had lived in Cerro Gordo for many years, and it was there that her friendship for Will Huff grew into love which led to their marriage at Wichita, Kansas, in August 1885. They continued to reside at Wichita only until January, 1880, and then they removed to Cerro Gordo.

Within a few months they came to Decatur, when Mr. Huff was made treasurer of the newly organize Decatur Lumber and Manufacturing company. Mrs. Huff has won her way into the hearts of many of our city. She was bright, intelligent, refined and gentle.

She leaves one son, an infant eight months old. Her mother, Mrs. Julia Pitts, and her sisters, Misses Minnie and Florence Pitts, have been making their home with her.

One brother who lives in Colorado has received news of her death and is on his way here. A second brother lives in Dakota and he may come in time for the funeral.

The services will be held at the late home of the deceased on Sunday morning, between 9 and 10 o’clock, Rev. George E. Scrimger officiating. The remains will be shipped to Cerro Gordo for interment.

For the bereaved husband and relatives only the warmest sympathy is felt. May they look for consolation to that faith which formed the guiding principle of her life and gave her a vision through death to the life beyond.
