HENRY TURNER BRANNON, 92, BAPTIST PASTOR EMERITUS

Arlington - The Rev. Henry Turner Brannon pastor emeritus of Tate Springs Baptist Church and a resident of Tate Springs and Arlington area since 1906 died Tuesday at an Arlington nursing home. He was 92.
Funeral will be at 1:30 pm today at Tate Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Moore Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of the arrangements.
The Rev. Brannon was born in Heflin Alabama. He and his widowed mother Mollie Brannon moved to Tate Springs, now a part of Arlington, in 1906.
He married Ola Hoffman in October 1918. She was the daughter of early Tate Springs area family.
When he was 28 he was call to ministry and enrolled Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
After a year at the seminary, he entered Decatur Baptist University, forerunner of Dallas Baptist University, where he obtained a tow-year degree along with a teaching certificate.
For the next four years, along with working part time as a pastor, he taught in a one room schoolhouse, Fish Creek School, south of Arlington. He had about 20 students in six grades in one room.
While at Decatur Baptist he was serving as a pastor part time at rural churches is Wise County and in 1929 he became half-time preacher of First Baptist Church in Hurst and Tate Springs Baptist Church.
He became full-time pastor of Tate Springs in 1934 and in 1936, completed his work at the seminary and received his bachelor of divinity degree.
He served the pastorate 32 years before retiring in 1961.
Through the years he held offices in the Tarrant County Baptist Association and in the Baptist General Convention of Texas and served on the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
After his retirement, the Rev. Brannon, served as interim pastor for various churches in the area and occasionally preached at revivals.
His wife of 60 years died in November 1978.
Survivors: One son, Stanley Brannon of Arlington; one foster daughter, Winnie Bentley of Houston; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Attended Decatur Baptist College and was ordained December 2, 1928.
Preached at Tate Springs Baptist Church from April 1929 and was called to be the full time pastor on September 2, 1934 and preached until he retired on his 65th birthday.
