Died by execution, by the State of Ohio. He shot and killed his three sons (Reginald Jr, 17; Vaughn, 15; Niarchos, 11) in 1982. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and attorneys argued that he was psychotic at the time of the murders (an online article details years of increasing isolation, paranoia, delusion, and bizarre behavior in the years before the killings), but the court found that he had a rational understanding of his punishment and was competent for trial and, later, execution. This seemed to based in part on the planning and forethought evident in the crimes. He spent 28 years on death row before is execution on Nov. 15, 2011. His wife stated that she believed that it was not mental illness, but revenge, that motivated the killings.
