QUINCY -- Libero Paul Marini, 89, of Quincy, an attorney and chairman of the Thomas Crane Public Library board of trustees for 43 years, died Wednesday in Braintree Manor Nursing Home.

Mr. Marini was very interested in the development of public libraries in Massachusetts and served on a number of library boards.

A former member of the board of trustees for the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, he was the past president of the Massachusetts Library Trustees Association. He was also a trustee of the state library, the George Finegold Library.

Mr. Marini practiced law in Quincy for more than 50 years. During World War II, he served as an appeal agent for the Selective Service board.

He served on the school committee for 10 years, from 1937 to 1947.

Along with Florence Cellini, he founded the L'Eco Club, which sponsored free cultural and educational activities for citizens of Italian origin.

Mr. Marini was a past president of the Quincy Bar Association and originator of the Quincy Elks Scholarship Fund.

He was also a member of the Quincy Elks and Sons of Italy.

A lifelong resident of Quincy, he was a graduate of Quincy High School, Boston University and Boston University School of Law.

Mr. Marini is survived by his wife, Eleanor (DiPanfilo) Marini; a son, Paul F. Marini of Falmouth; a daughter, Virginia A. Kelly of Quincy; a sister, Aura Barton of Braintree; and five grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at St. John's Church, 44 School St., at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Mount Wollaston Cemetery.

Visiting is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin St.
