Burr Rumsey Dies; Was In His 80th Year
Well Known Ithacan and Former Prominent Resident of Enfield –
Served On Supervisors – Was a Member of Several Lodges
Burr Rumsey, 79, a well-known Ithacan, and a former prominent resident of Enfield for many years, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 114 West Court Street. He had been ill of heart trouble for some time.
Mr. Rumsey was born in Enfield in 1849 and resided there until 15 years ago wen he moved to Ithaca. He was elected supervisor from Enfield in the Spring of 1887 and served a term on the county board with John Beers of Danby, Randolph Horton of Newfield, now of Ithaca, John Jones of Groton; A.H. Person of Ulysses, later in the State Legislature; R.G.H. Speed of Caroline; Horatio Brown of Lansing; George W. Frost of Ithaca, and George M. Rockwell of Dryden.
This board was considered one of the most able and efficient Tompkins County has ever had.
Mr. Rumsey was also serving as justice of the peace in the Town of Enfield when he was elected a member of the Board of Supervisors. A life long Democrat, he was the recognized Democratic leader in the Town of Enfield for more than 30 years. He had a wide circle of friends throughout Tompkins County.
Was World Traveller
Mr. Rumsey was an enthusiastic world traveler. He made two trips to the Holy Land.
Mr. Rumsey was a member of Hobasco Lodge of Masons; St. Augustine Commandery, Knights Templar; Katurah Temple of the Shrine, and the Ithaca Lodge of Elks.
Mr. Rumsey was a brother of the late Charles J. Rumsey of this city. He is survived by his widow. The funeral announcement will be made later.

Funeral services for Burr Rumsey, who died yesterday at his home, 114 West Court Street, will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the home. Rev. Martin D. Hardin, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the City Cemetery.
