Carl was born in Germany in 1836. He immigrated later in life with his wife Mary Uhnens (1839-1921).

They were entered in the 1871 census of Waterloo North.
Carl Maas was entered in the 1891 census as widowed.
He married Christina Reikow nee Rebelski formerly Hannenberg at St. Peter's Lutheran church.
She moved from Bloomingdale to his home near Suddaby School.
Carl Maas was a brick maker by trade.

Carl died at the age of 59 years, 7 months and 3 days in the town of Berlin in 1896. Cause of Death was; Cancer of the Bowels. Death Register #019789.
