Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. While a Corporal in Company H of the 10th Vermont Infantry during the Battle of the Monocacy, he grabbed his regiments two battle flags from their exhausted color bearers, and bore them to safety while being fired upon by the enemy.
