Frederick was a son of Isaac and Alma (Taggart) Eveleth. He married Hester Ann Hoffner October 22, 1838, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and they had ten children: George, Harriett, Francis, Thomas, Mary, Alma, John, Addie, Maggie and Alonzo. They remained in Cincinnati until about 1844 before moving to Cynthiana, Kentucky, where he remained, working as a saddler.
