Born on November 25, 1924 in Frystown, he was a son of the late Elmer F. and Cora E. Marks Reed.
Doc was a 1942 graduate of Pine Grove High School.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty-fours years and had served during the Vietnam War. In 1969, he completed the Photographic Technician Training Course. He received the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, a Commendation Medal, a Good Conduct Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster.
Doc worked at and retired from Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Annville.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pine Grove where he had served on the Church Council.
Doc was a Life Member of the Pine Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3432, Life Member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 1342, a member of the Pine Grove American Legion Post 374, and a Life Member of the Swatara Archers in Pine Grove.
He enjoyed target archery and photography. For many years, he had been a Photographer for the Press Herald.
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his sisters: Arlene Griffiths, Helen Keely, and Grace Koehn; and, his brothers: Charles J. Reed and Warren Reed.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years: June Schaeffer Reed; his daughter: Sharon Stoudt of Utah; his son: Stephen Reed of Windber; and, his six grandchildren.
Family and Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 07:00 - 09:00 PM in H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Incorporated, Pine Grove.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM in St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Dr. Richard Schoenleber officiating.
Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
