Miss Mary E. Chapin, pioneer in educational work, was buried yesterday in Graceland Cemetery. The funeral was held at the residence of her grandnephew, Dr. S. N. Chapin (Dr. Staley Nichols Chapin), 6130 South Park avenue, the Rev. John R. Crosser, pastor of the Kenwood Evangelical Church, Forty-sixth street and Greenwood avenue, officiating. Miss Chapin's nephews, W. A. Collins, Western Springs, and S. M. Millard, Highland Park, and her grandnephews, Everett Millard, Highland Park, and Dr. S. N. Chapin, acted as pallbearers.

Miss Mary E. Chapin, 87 years old, a veteran woman's seminary founder and teacher, died at the home of her nephew, Dr. S.N. Chapin, in Chicago, last week. Miss Chapin began to teach at the seminary in New Haven, and in 1860 helped found a woman's seminary at Milwaukee. She went to Lawrence Kan., and there founded a seminary which later developed into the University of Lawrence.
