OBITUARY
John Edward Beal was born in Pennsylvania June 2, 1858. He died at his home in Eagle Grove, March 26, 1921, at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 24 days.
When thirteen years of age he moved to Sterling, Ill., to make his home with an uncle, with home he remained for a number of years. In 1888 he came to Eagle Grove, where he entered the service of the Chicago Northwestern railway company. He was a faithful employee for 31 years during which time he never received a demerit mark. In 1817 he was pensioned from the service.
On April 2, 1890, he was united in marriage to Minnie B. Broeffle. To this union three children were born, Herman B., who died in infancy, Mrs. Inez B. Ross of Camp Grove, Ill., and Phillip V., who is still at home. Mrs. and Mrs. Beal went to housekeeping in the present home and had Mr. Beal lived until April 2, they would have lived here for 31 years.
Mr. Beal was one of a family of 12, of which only one sister, Mrs. James Hogan of New Bedford, Ill., survives. He also has an uncle, Noah Sturtz, of Gilman, Iowa.
Mr. Beal was a member of the I.O.O.F.B. of L.F.& E., B.A.Y. and Rebekahs. He was baptized in the M.E. church of Eagle Grove, February 7, 1907, of which he has been a member since January, 1909.
He leaves a wife, two children and two grandchildren to mourn his loss, and to these sorrowing relatives the Eagle joins with a host of friends in extending sincerest sympathy.
