Howard Eugene Crane, 93, of Pinehurst, father of Cheryl Brobst of Seven Lakes, died December 26. Services will be held at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Poolesville Md., on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.
Born in Oelrichs, SD, Howard was raised in Omaha, NE. He attended Creighton University, George Washington University, and the USDA Graduate School. During World War II he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific theater aboard the Navy's minesweeper USS Bibb. Howard retired from the U.S. Department of Justice after 33 years of Federal service.
He and his wife Barbara lived in Annapolis, MD, for 32 years before moving to Pinehurst in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Kephart Crane; son Gary, of The Villages, Fla., and daughter Cheryl Brobst, of Seven Lakes, and their spouses; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
