John. A. Boernsen son of Peter and Christina Boernsen, was born in Plymouth County on October 21, 1888. He lived his youth and attended Lutheran Church School in May City, Iowa.
He was united in marriage, to Bertha Mielke of May City on January 22, 1918, at-May City.
He served in the Armed Forces in World War I in France from February 26, 1918, until May of 1919.
He was engaged in farming in the May City area until 1958. When they moved into the town of May City. Their entire married life was lived in the May City vicinity.
He passed away December 21, 1970, a t the Hartley hospital at the age of 82 years and_ 2 months.
He is, survived by his wife, Bertha, of May City; one son, Elmer of Ocheyedan, Iowa; one daughter, Helen (Mrs. Carl Everts) of Seward, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, William and Henry, and one sister, Dora (Mrs. Henry Brockshus) all of May City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Merle; one brother and one sister.
He was confirmed and a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of May City, Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church of May City on Thursday, December 24, 1970, a t 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Donald Burch officiating.
Casket bearers were Alvin Berends, Alfred Sandersfeld, Marvin Brockshus, Kenneth Boernsen, Clarence Sandersfeld and John Brockshus.
Interment was in Harrison Township Cemetery near May City, Iowa.
