C.L. Duniven Jr., 90, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003.
> Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. Charles Jones, pastor of Second Baptist Church, and Monsignor Joseph Tash, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, officiating. Private entombment will be in Llano Cemetery.

> Mr. Duniven "Dunny" graduated from Amarillo High School in 1930, where he was a 117-pound star halfback. He went to Texas Tech in 1931 and played quarterback and returned kickoffs. He played on Texas Tech's first golf and tennis teams in 1931.

> Dunny won the Amarillo Golf and Tennis City Championships and was one pin short of the city bowling championship. He was a generous man to the community and the athletes of the Panhandle of Texas, including his creation of the C.L. Duniven Super Team Award.

> He was a man who took calculated risks in business and investments. On golf courses from Hawaii to the east coast of the United States and south to Mexico, he became best known as an outstanding amateur golfer, winning the Trans-Mississippi Senior Golf Tournament in 1965, and at age 54, won the International Senior Golf Tournament in Mexico City in 1966. Over the years, he conquered every local golf tournament in the Texas Panhandle.

> Survivors include his wife, Karolina; two daughters, Linda Pelton and husband, Gordon, and ViAnna LaRue; a sister, Nancy Butler; a brother, Neal Duniven; his grandchildren, Lane Howard and wife, Kristi, BriAnna Pelton and Garrett Pelton; and two great-grandchildren.
