Stanford Payne, Austin real estate operator, died unexpectedly Monday at 6 a.m. at his home, 3601 Bonnie Road.

Apparently in good spirits Payne had arisen and gone to a bedroom table when he collapsed. He had suffered a heart attack last year.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. O. F. Dingler and the Rev. E. B. Bratcher will officiate. The body will be sent to Terrell for burial.

Payne is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Stevenson Payne and a nephew, Robert Payne, both of Austin, a stepson, James Latson of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Effie Boyd of Terrell and a brother, Ross Payne of Del Rio.

Payne was well known in musical circles. He took an active part in square dances and in old fiddlers' contests here for a number of years.

In real estate, he specialized in farm and ranch properties. He was a member of the Austin Real Estate Board
