J. W. Sublett, 87, of Cane Valley, one of Adair County's most prominent citizens, died Thursday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m., at the Rosary Hospital in Campbellsville. He had been a patient there since August, when he fractured his hip from a fall. He was a native of Adair County and belonged to a well-known family, being the son of the late William Branch and Martha Stubbs Sublett. He was married to Miss Sally Rice in 1888, who preceded him in death in 1939. He and his brother, R. A. Sublett, who survives him, were partners in a mercantile business in Cane Valley from 1901 until 1920. They were also stock buyers and were well-known throughout Adair and adjoining counties. J. W. Sublett was a director of the First National Bank until his retirement two years ago and had served in that capacity since the bank was organized. He was a faithful member of the Cane Valley Christian Church. Besides his brother, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Walter Bowen, Columbia; Mrs. J. M. Hancock, Cane Valley; and Mrs. J. W. Faulkner, Campbellsville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cane Valley Christian Church, by the Rev. H. J. Conover. Interment was in the Cane Valley Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Ben, Marion, Kenneth, and Frank Wesley Hancock and Joe and Ralph Faulkner.
