Passed Away Suddenly

Mrs. Mary Shandera Horacek of this city passed away very suddenly at her home from a heart attack at 9:15pm Wednesday, June 20th. Mrs. Horacek was born in David City, NE May 4, 1880 to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Styskal Sr, and at the time of her passing, had attained the age of 54 years, 1 month, and 16 days.

On September 6, 1898, she was united in marriage to Joe F. Shandera at Bruno. To this union were born, George, James and Victor, all of Kimball, Joe of Crete, Ernest of San Diego, CA, Hilda of Omaha, Mary of Chicago, Mrs. Frank Bruner. Louis and Gerald of this city. Mr. Shandera passed away in Omaha on May 11, 1930.

On October 29, 1932, Mrs. Shandera was united in marriage to Rudolph Horacek, who is left to grieve the passing of his beloved wife. There are also her father, Anton Styskal, six brothers and three sisters surviving.

Mrs. Horacek made her home in River, Minnesota for some time and in 1920 she came to David City with her famiy where they have since made their home. Mrs. Horacek was a home loving woman, a good and true friend,and neighbor and devoted to her family and husband.

Funeral services were conducted in David City at 9 o'clock June 23rd with Father Therris in charge and burial took place in the Catholic Cemetery.

Pall Bearers were Anton and Louis Styskal, Frank Bruner, Anton and Frank Osmera and Ed Rech.

Those here from away to attend the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Litty of Calloway, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Reznicek and family of Pender, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Styskal and family of Schuyler, Mr. and Mrs. John Styskal and family of Shelby, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Styskal of Bruno, Ed Styskal of Chicago, Ill, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Horacek and Mrs. Joe Slama of Fairfield, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Horacek of Baileyville, KS, Mr. and Mrs. August Shandera and daughter of Wahoo, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kavanda and daughter, Marilyn, Miss Edna Craven, Miss Elizabeth Dugan and Miss Irma Smatlon all of Omaha.
