She was a Lincoln County native, growing up in Hubble, KY. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduation she followed her husband's 30 year military career as a devoted Army wife, moving family multiple times world wide. Retiring to Louisville, the couple spent the next 26 years enjoying their time here with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel H and Valinda M Bell; and an infant daughter, Valinda Virginia Sanders.
She is survived by her husband, Col. B.R. "Bud" Sanders (Ret.); son, Dr. B.R. "Buz" Sanders (Denise Gill); grandchildren, Michelle Sanders Mace (Adam), Samuel Sanders (Lacie); sister, Mary Evelyn Ensslin (Tom); and nieces.
The Sanders family expresses deep gratitude to all the Jewish Hospital staff for seeing to her care and comfort. We would also like to thank the Transplant Coordinators and staff for their constant support and care over the past 16 years. Special gratitude to social worker Beth Creamer.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Monday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Pearson's.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy to Hosparus or the American Liver Foundation.
