John E. Johnson, 81, of Lucasville Rt. 4; a retired farmer, died at 3:30am today at his home on Lucasville Rt. 4. He had been in failing health about a year.
For 25 years Mr. Johnson operated the Kline farm.
He was born Jul 19, 1870, in Elliott Co., Ky a son of James and Jane Gillium Johnson. He was married to Mary Hylton Nov 1, 1896, at Webbville, Ky., and she survives.
He also leaves four daughters, Mrs. Monroe Adkins, of Otway, Mrs. John Campbell of Camp, Mrs. Robert Smith of Blue Island, Ill., and Miss Mary Johnson of Lucasville and eight sons, W. Riley Johnson of Wheelersburg, Leonard of Argillite, Johnny, Richard, Nathan, and James of Lucasville and Lonnie and Ward at home.
Other survivors include 41 grandchildren, three brothers, Richard of Greenup, Quantrell of New Boston, and Thurman of Ironton, and a sister, Mrs. Belle Fultz of Ft. Benton, Mont.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday at the Johnson residence, with Rev. Tom Ratcliff officiating and burial in Pritchard Cemetery at Greenup under the direction of McKinley Funeral Home. Friends may call at the residence tonight and until the funeral hour.
