Mr. Saunders was a member and deacon of Rose Union Baptist Church. He was a lead burner and a member of Local No. 153 Lead Burners Union for more than 40 years. Prior to his illness he was associated with Preston Parr Funeral Home for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. June Spencer Saunders; two daughters, Dolores S. Hill and Gail S. Ponton, both of Piney River; three sisters, Belle Brent of Roseland, Irene Bryant of Lynchburg and Margaret Nelson of Charlotte Courthouse; one brother, James W. Saunders of Newport News; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Saunders, and a brother, George E. Saunders.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Peter L. duPlessis and the Rev. Ervin R. Booth in Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, Roseland. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30.
