John and Sarah married around 1852 and in 1880 emigrated to the US from North Gower, Ontario.
In 1900, they were living on the family farm in Carlisle Township, along with their daughter Maud.
By this time, six of their nine children were still alive. Two of them, Cyrus Howard and Ephriam, were living close by with families of their own. The other four living children were Maud, Howard, Louis and Odoriah. Odoriah had returned to Manitoba, Canada with her husband Jacob Empey and their children by 1901. The deceased children were Margret, John, and Chester.
