Alphonse was known as "Al". He was the fifth of 13 children born to Cornelius Mathias "Neil" Daleiden and Katherine Marie "Katie/Kate" Wertzler in Hampton, Minnesota. Neil married Kate on 29 Jan 1901 in one of the first, if not the first, marriage ceremony conducted in Saint Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton, Dakota County, Minnesota. Al spent his childhood in Hampton as the son of the town's furniture maker, coffin maker, and mortician. Al's large family was very active in the St. Mathias Catholic Church. His parents also owned a farm in Randolph County for several years so that Al and his siblings could attend high school there. While living on the farm, Al was the "bus driver" for his family as he drove himself and his siblings to school in their horse-drawn wagon.

Al married Emma Marie "Emma" Mies (1906-1989; FAG# 80375017) on 14 Jan 1943. Emma and Al grew up together in the small town of Hampton and lived there their entire lives. They had one child together. Al worked with his father and in the family businesses until his own retirement. He and Emma lived on the main road going through town. One could find a warm welcome anytime from anytime. They were active in their town and lovingly cared for their home and gardens.

Al passed away at the age of 89 in 1997. He joined Emma who had passed away in 1989. Al and Emma are buried next to each other in the St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Hampton, near their parents, some siblings and many relatives.
