Carl W. McCarty, age 94, of Canton, passed away on June 10, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 22, 1916 to the late Wilbur and Sylvia McCarty in Carroll Co. He worked at Republic Steel in Massillon prior to going to work for Canton City Schools as boiler fireman and custodian from 1951 to 1983, retiring after 37 years of dedicated service. Carl was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was assistant scout master of the church's Boy Scout troop 159, which he co-founded. Carl was a member of the International Order of Foresters and the American Legion, having served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He was also a member of Retirees of Canton Drop Forge. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, gardening and especially his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Doris; brother, Charles; sisters, Mary Helen, Ada and Bessie. He is survived by his daughters, six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, ; three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
