ST. AUGUSTINE - A. W. "Bill" Coursey, 89, of rural St. Augustine died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at his residence. Born May 19, 1914, near Monmouth to James Lewis and Dorthea Emily Holloway Coursey, he married Polly J. Schugmann on Sept. 19, 1948, in Abingdon. She survives. Also surviving are one son, George (and Deb) of rural St. Augustine; two grandsons; two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He had farmed in Knox County since 1949. A member of the Knox County Pork Producers, he had been a pork producer. He was a past board member of the Poland China Association. He also worked as a security guard at Maytag Corp. in Galesburg for five years. A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served in the 78th Fighter Squadron in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Friends may call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by his American Legion post. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon High School Future Farmers of America.
