The surname of John is sometimes spelled Breeding. His descendants went by both but my branch settled on "Breeden".

Everett M. King, "History of Maries County, Missouri", p-263:

"John Breeden, the ancestor of all the local family of that name, came here from near Kingston, Roane County, Tennessee, probably with Massey Bishop, about the year 1842. He was at that time living with his second wife, who was probably a Forrester, and the fact that her relatives had lived here for many years likely influenced their choice of location. Very little is known of their life here except that they lived mostly along the Maries, and both he and his wife are probably buried at the Vaughan Cemetery."

His first wife was Nancy Frost. Their marriage is recorded in "Wells History of Roane Co., Tennessee", p-89, and happened on Sept. 10, 1817. The Frost surname was handed down as a middle name in my branch of the Breeden family.
