She was born in St. Albans on June 18, 1950, the daughter of Rachel (Flanders) Richard and the late John Richard.
On November 17, 1973, Phyllis married John D. Cross, who survives her. They were deeply in love and spent all of their free time together. They enjoyed going out to dinner and to the movies together frequently. They also loved spending quiet nights at home.
Phyllis graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and attended Johnson State College. Before her Illness, Phyllis worked for Casella Recycling. She enjoyed doing crosswords, cross stitching, embroidery, doing all kinds of crafts and reading. Her greatest joy was being with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her mother, Rachel Richard; her husband, John; her siblings and their spouses, Sharon & Ronald Chadwick, Valerie & Daniel Dunster, Jane & Rene Benoit, Patrick & DeeDee Richard and Mark, Donald & David Richard. Phyllis is also survived by her in-laws, Donald & Isabell Cross; her brothers & sisters-in-law, Michael & Suzan Cross and Steve & Candie Young; her close friends, Nancy & Jerry Vaisey and many many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, John Richard.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday November 15, 2011, from 7 to 9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 16th at 11:00 AM in the Heald Chapel with the Reverend Mr. Duane E. Langlois officiating.
Interment will follow in the Binghamville Cemetery.
