Marie Abadie Peyton
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Marie Abadie Peyton, 94, who passed away Tuesday, February 23rd at Garden View Assisted Living in Lafayette. Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, February 27th from 9:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Monsignor Harry D. Greig, of Lake Charles, will officiate.
Marie was born in Vacherie, LA and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. She and her husband Bill founded Lafayette Music Company in 1955 and operated the store until its sale in 1977. A quiet Southern lady, Marie took pride in caring for her family and enjoyed welcoming many talented musicians and friends into their home. Later in her life, Marie received great joy and inspiration from attending Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, particularly in the music of the talented choir and the uplifting homilies by Father Hampton Davis and Deacon Lloyd.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Peyton McLemore and her husband Charlie, of Lake Charles; three sons, Bill Peyton, Jr. and his companion Margaret Champagne, of Cecilia, Barry Peyton and his wife Donna Bonck, of Loreauville and Rusty Peyton and his wife Becky Dominique, of Lafayette; a brother, A.J. Abadie, Jr., of Vacherie; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren as well as numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William "Bill" Carl Peyton, Sr.; her parents, Andre Joseph Abadie, Sr. and Eloise Waguespack Abadie; two sisters, Thelma Abadie Zeringue and Bernadette Abadie Roussel and four brothers, Russell, Frank, Dudley and Donald Abadie.
Pallbearers will be Chuck McLemore, Mike Leger, William Peyton, Christopher Peyton, Jake Leger and Luke Leger. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Garden View Assisted Living and Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate care given to Marie and her family. A special thanks is extended to Marie's nurse, Lindsey LeBlanc. With regards to the most recent mandates of the current pandemic, masks and social distancing are required for gatherings in the funeral home and in the cemetery.
