Edward Gilley, 82, of Boone, passed away on Nov. 7, 2011. He was born in 1929 on a homestead in northeast Pueblo County to James Luther and Veatura Ann (Carter) Gilley. Edward spent his life near where he was born. He married Virginia Y. Potestio in 1949 and had two children. During his 40-year career in agriculture, he grew pinto beans, sorghum, wheat and sunflowers and mentored young neighbors in dry land farming. He was a master Mason and was awarded a certificate in 2007 by Silver State Lodge No. 95, AF&AM of Pueblo for completing 50 years of membership in the Masonic Fraternity. During his retirement, he actively volunteered at the AARP Information Center in Pueblo and was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2009. A loving husband and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Virginia. Edward is survived by his children, Dr. John E. Gilley of Lincoln, Neb., and Cynthia Gilley (Richard W. Soudriette) of Colorado Springs. After a Masonic memorial service, Edward was interred beside his wife at Roselawn Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice through the Roselawn Funeral Home office.
