Lois "Bob" Cummings, age 76, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Helen Keller Hospital surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Akins Funeral Home, Russellville, Ala. His body will lie in state 12:30-2 p.m. before the funeral service at Russellville Church of God on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, with Brother George Sansbury, Sister Pearl Shelton and Brother Nick McSpadden officiating. Interment will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ida Cummings; siblings, Charles Borden, Jack Cummings, Nell Rogers, Dorothy Borden and Della Presley.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise Puckett Cummings; children, Gary (Barbara) Cummings, Linda Cummings Greenhill, Shirley Cummings (Nick) McSpadden, Michael (Tyra) Cummings, Lisa Cummings (Byron) Gann; siblings, Vernie (Francis) Cummings, Jerry (Joy) Cummings, Margaret Lovett; 21 grandchildren, Gary (Mandy) Cummings Jr., Cory (Jessica) Cummings, Dr. Jeremy (Amy) Campbell, Brett (Joanie) Hall, Brian (Mirtha) Hall, Tiffany Greenhill (Chris) Boatwright, Jessica McSpadden, Nicholas McSpadden, Michael David Cummings, Joshua Cummings, Ariel Cummings, Molly Gann, Mallory Gann, Elisabeth Lerch Gann, Olivia Gann; 11 great-grandchildren, Addie Cummings, Avery Cummings, Katie Cummings, Brandt Cummings, Braden Hall, Brooklyn Hall, Brayden Hall, Issabella Hall, Emma Campbell, Asher Campbell, Brody Boatwright; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Russellville Church of God and My Fathers' House Ministries. He was retired from U.S. Reduction, a Russellville District 5 city councilman from 1968-1972 with one of his proudest accomplishments, the building of West Elementary School. He was the best husband, wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend.
