John Walker Jones, 68, of Owensboro, Kentucky died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Jones was born in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Cecil Walker Jones and Anna Louise Barnard Jones Alvey and was a member of First Baptist Church He graduated from Owensboro High School, received his BA in Business from Kentucky Wesleyan College, his MBA from Auburn University, and an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College. He taught business and economics at Owensboro High School before joining the sales team at Modern Welding in 1970; he was currently Chairman of the Board for Modern Welding. Mr. Jones was an active supporter of Kentucky Wesleyan College where he served on the Board of Directors, taught business and psychology part time from 1974-1981, and served as Board Chairman from 1993-2001. He served on many boards including the Family YMCA for 10 years and as Chairman for 3 years, BB& T, United Way, Leadership Owensboro, Boy Scouts of America, American Automobile Association (Louisville, KY), International Bluegrass Museum, Community Foundation of Owensboro, Lighthouse Recovery, and Owensboro Daviess County Hospital. He was a Kentucky Colonel, inducted into the Owensboro High School Hall of Fame, and received the Wendell Ford March of Dimes Award. He was an avid outdoorsman and big game hunter. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Cooper Jones; daughter, Juliette Kay Jones of Owensboro; son, Jeffery Walker Jones and his wife Michelle of Naples, FL; grandsons, John Bradley Loucks, Jordan Richard Loucks and Colton Lee Hawkins; brothers, Leland Carson Jones and James Edward "Jimmy" Jones and his wife Sandra all of Owensboro. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12 at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Kentucky Wesleyan College Memorial Fund, Lighthouse Recovery or the cancer research fund of one's choice.
