Edward Henze Plymouth Post January 14, 1897

Mr. Edward Henze, Sen., a prosperous farmer in this area, committed suicide Monday evening between six and seven o'clock. He hung himself on a rafter in the upper story of his barn, He was found by his son, Robert at about seven o'clock in a kneeling position and cut him down. Dr. Felter was called immediately but could do nothing but pronounce the death.
Mr. Henze was a man of lively temperament and no one would have suspected that he would end his life this way. An inquest was held in the home of the deceased Tuesday morning before Judge Bergemann. The jury consisted of Mr. H. W. Fischer, Rob Scheibe, Wm. Sebald, Geo. Corbett, Chas. Lahl and Ed. O'Connell. They gave their verdict.
Edward Henze, Sr., was born the 7th of November 1830 in Artern, Province Saxony, and had reached the age of 66 years, 2 months and 4 days. He came to America with his parents in 1847 to this county where he parents settled in Town Herman. In 1849 Mr. Henze went to the Lake Superior area where he worked as a Hauler for two years. In 1853 he was married to0 Miss Charlotte Michalies. Until 1865 they lived on a farm in Town Herman and then were near to Sheboygan, in Cascade and in Town Lima, until 1870 when they came here a mile northwest of the city and where they have lived ever since. He is survived by his wife and 6 children; Robert, Edward, Frank, Otto, Mrs. Martin Larson and Miss Hulda Henz. The deceased was a member of the local Lessing Lodge O.D. H. S. which conducted the funeral service today.
