Capt. William H. Ruebush, 83, veteran army band director and composer, died Sunday at his home in Elkton.
Captain Ruebush directed the famed 116th Infantry Band during World War I and was a faculty member of the Shenandoah College Conservatory of Music at Dayton for many years before his retirement. He served one term in the House of Delegates.
He composed the music for the college tune, "Old Virginia," and wrote the alma mater hymn for Tulane University at New Orleans. He had played with and directed Staunton's Stonewall Brigade Band.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Glada Dyche Ruebush; a son, Capt. Trenton K. Ruebush of Bethesda Md.: a brother, Joseph K. Ruebush of Harrisonburg and a sister, Mrs. Luther Andrews of Roanoke.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at Elkton.
