Alfred Loyd Scott
Alfred Loyd Scott, 83, Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1988, at a Topeka convalescent center.
Mr. Scott and his first wife founded American Directory Publishing Co. in the early 1930s. During World War II he closed the Publishing company while he taught courses on aircraft engines at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. He later reopened the publishing company which he operated until he retired in 1961.
He was born Aug. 5, 1905, in Topeka, the son of Henry C. and Alice Delana Teed Scott. He was graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn College in Topeka.
Mr. Scott was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM, Arab Shrine, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Topeka camping Club, and Kansas Telephone Association.
He was married to Laura Lyle Lane July 8, 1929, in Garnett. She died April 10, 1960. He was married to Norma Chilcoat Olsen Oct. 10, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Frances Mettle, Longview, Texas; a stepdaughter, Claudia Strahm, Sabetha; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Scott will lie in state at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Friday when the casket will be closed. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
