Mrs. Wm. H. Suter passed away at her home just west of Kahoka, Tuesday, August 4, 1936, at 9:30 o'clock p.m., aged 88 years 3 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Suter was formerly Miss Sue E. Toombs, a daughter of the late Edwin B. and Sarah Burke Toombs, and was born in Scotland county, Missouri, April 29, 1848. She was married to W. H. Suter, November 2, 1865, he having preceded her in death March 30, 1929. To this union three children were born, one having died in infancy, Ira Suter and Hal Suter and two grandchildren, H.W. Suter and Mrs. Rilla Swearingen of Kahoka remain also three brothers, T.D. Toombs of Newton, Iowa; Price Toombs, of Apache, Oklahoma, and Henry Toombs, of Los Angeles, California. Three sisters, Mrs. Emma Pratt of Grant's Pass, Oregon; Mrs. Minnie Woodford of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Anna Graves of Silverton, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews, besideds other relatives and friends. She united with the Baptist church in early life and still remained a member until death, being a strong believer in her Lord and Master and was interested in anything for the betterment of the community in which she lived, having resided for 18 years on the farm where she passed away. Her health was good up to a week before her death, being able to do her house work, although she was at the advanced age of 88 years. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family, besides a host of neighbors and friends. She was resigned and ready to depart and be with her Savior. Blessed are they who die in the Lord. The funeral services were held from the Baptist church. Kahoka, Thursday, Aug. 6, at 10:30 o'clock a.m., conducted by the Rev. C. E. Newton, of Paris, MO, assisted by Rev. W. A. Holmes of Newton, Ia. Songs were sung by Miss Juanita and William Scrivner with Mrs. D. S. Scrivner accompanist. The pallbearers were Wm. Tucker, Fred Hess, Herbert Jenkins, Henry Pohlmann, Len Kerner and John Martin.
