Sarah Cook was born in 1812 in Smith County, Tennessee, the oldest child of Theophilus and Elizabeth Caldwell Cook. In about 1820 the family migrated to Jefferson County, Illinois. Sarah married John S. Jenkins there on Nov. 3, 1831. In 1834 they moved to Fulton County, Illinois along with the families of Ann Jenkins (widowed mother of John) and Thomas S. Jenkins, brother of John. For a short period around 1840, John and Sarah returned to Jefferson County - but then returned to Fulton County. Sarah died in 1845 shortly after the birth of their son, John W. Jenkins. Her sister-in-law, Mary Shelton Jenkins, wife of Thomas S. Jenkins, died around that same time and is known to have been buried in the Ashby Cemetery. It is assumed that Sarah is also buried there - but there are no readable grave markers remaining in this cemetery. In 1851, John Jenkins and his children moved to Bremer County, Iowa, where he died in 1880. Their children were:

Priscilla Jenkins - born 1833
Julia Ann Jenkins - born 1834
Louisa Jenkins - born 1838
Josephine Jenkins - born 1842
John W. Jenkins - born 1845
