Dr. Francis E. Summers, Ph.D., 79, of Charleston passed away Thursday (Nov. 10, 2011) at Gowin Parc, Mattoon.

He was born Oct. 26, 1932 in Harrisburg to Martin A. and Grace M. Kingston Summers. He married Marcia Ann Hartley on June 26, 1951 in Cairo, Illinois. She preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2000. He was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his daughters, Shelby Lynn DeCapite of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Sara Beth Summers of Pendleton, S.C., Susan Frances Summers of Charleston and Sharla Ann Hansen of Neoga; a brother, Jerry Summers of Cape Coral, Florida; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.
