"Hosea Preslar, a Primitive Baptist preacher, is dead. He was an old man and removed from North Carolina to this state many years ago. He was respected by all that knew him."
...submitted by contributor m.g.

Hosea Preslar was the son of Stephen Preslar, Sr b. 1782 and Anna (Caudle) b. 1787, of Anson County NC. He married Rhoda Horne and became a preacher.

He was neighbor, friend and preacher of my g.g.grandmother, Catherine Richardson Stewart.

In the early 1850s Elder Hosea Preslar led a group of people from Anson County, NC, across the mountains, rivers and forests, to West TN and settled in Henderson County. I am amazed at the courage and faith they had in undertaking such a long arduous trip! Catherine Stewart, my widowed g.g.grandmother, and her eight children were a part of this group.

In his book "Thoughts on Divine Providence" Hosea stated his parents had "nine children, six sons, and three daughters (one of which was stillborn), of which number I was the third". He also stated that his parents, all his siblings and their families came with him to Tennessee, except one brother who was already there. He did not identify that brother, nor either of the two sisters (one older) that he mentions in his book. But he did say his older sister was 6 years older than he was. Since Hosea stated he was the third born - some of the order and some of the dates below may differ from other lists. But I believe he would know where he came in the birth line. Please feel free to offer any suggestions or corrections.

Known siblings of Hosea Preslar:
1. Gillian Preslar b. 1802
2. Older sister b. 1808
(3. Hosea Preslar b. 1814)
4. Patrick Preslar b. ?
5. Bryant Preslar b. ?
6. Annie Preslar Wright b. 1917
7. William Preslar b. 1824
8. Stephen Preslar Jr b.Sep. 1825
9. Stillborn sister?

Hosea's book "Thoughts on Divine Providence: or a sketch of God's care over and dealings with His people, together with a concise view of the causes and effects of the late war in the United States" was published in 1867. In 1977 his great grandson, Elder William P Preslar of Dallas Texas, had the book reprinted. He stated in the Introduction that "This wonderful book gave me new insight into the dealings of God with me in my life". He wished "every house could have a copy to read along with the Bible". The book is very rare and very difficult to find. I feel very blessed to have a copy.
