He was born on March 15, 1897 in Bangor, a son of John and Alice Hunter.

He married Miss Nora Brown in October 1916. She died on September 18, 1960.

He owned and operated the Potsdam Welding and Machine Shop. He was a veteran of World War 1. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter had spent winters in Florida and Arizona, and their summers in Sanfordville for several years. He was a member of Frank Barclay Post American Legion.

Surviving were two children, Mrs. Robert (Florence) McKenna and William J. Hunter; two brothers, Stanley and Alex; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Mildred) Moore; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
