Mrs. J.M. Murphy will long be remember for her innumerable deeds of benevolence in behalf of local church, civic, and welfare organizations. She made many contributions to the Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation, and financed erection of the Boy Scout Building. Mrs. Murphy enjoyed giving to others, but did not desire publicity nor praise for her deeds.

Mrs. Murphy Passes Away Monday
Funeral Services Wednesday At 10 a.m. Presbyterian Church

Mrs. James M Murphy, who has been a lifetime resident of Gonzales County, died in z Holmes hospital Monday afternoon at 7:30 o'clock after having taken desperately ill Sunday. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock.
She was born on February 5, 1865, tje daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. White of Gonzales and named Sarah White. On January 8, 1860, she was married to James M. Murphy. He preceded her in death in 1926.
She is survived by a foster daughter, Mrs. Lillie Dunning, and two sisters, Mrs. R. H. Walker of Gonzales and Linnie White of Austin and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Hodges of Roswell, N. M. And Mrs. Pearl White Wroe of Austin and three brothers, J. P. White of zrodwell, T. D. White of Roswell, and J. W. White of Mason , Texas, preceded Mrs. Murphy in death.
A lifetime member of the Presbyterian church, Mrs. Murphy has been strengthening pillar of the church, always doing good, making numerous charitable donations. She never sought publicity for her good deeds, making her goodwill gestures in a quiet manner. Benefited by her acts of benevolence were the z warm Springs Foundation, the church, and one of the outstanding contributions was the donation to cover complete expense f the Boy Scout Building.
Her husband founded and owned the local telephone company for a number of years. Upon his death she continued the operation of the company for a few years. When the company was sold , she gave all employees a bonus based on the number of years of service.
Mrs. Murphys passing will mean a great loss to the community and the church, in which she has had a prominent part in building?
