Margaret Fern "Peg" Newton

Margaret Fern "Peg" Newton, 87, of Callaway, Nebraska, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Callaway District Hospital.
She was born August 31, 1924, at Callaway, Nebraska to Ralph and Elsie (Myers) Miller.
Peg graduated from Callaway High School in 1942 and attended and graduated from Business College in Hastings. She met Billy Richard Newton – in a bowling alley. They were married six weeks later, June 8, 1947. March 8, 1948, they had a son Dennis Arthur "Fig" Newton and four years later, born February 24, 1952, Brenda Lea Newton Clements.
Shortly after their marriage, Ralph Miller invited them back to Callaway so he and Bill could farm together. They did so until her parents' deaths. Bill continued to farm until his semi-retirement and death March 14, 2006.
Peg was active in the United Methodist Church for 75 years. She was a Sunday School Superintendent and youth choir director for many years. She received her 75th anniversary award and pin along with her cousin Bob Myers November 2, 2011. She was also a charter member of her Bible Study group as well as Birthday Belles. She was an active Legion Auxiliary member for 43 years.
Peg is survived by her daughter Brenda Clements of Lincoln, Nebraska; Brenda's best friend Glenn Clements of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Mavis Newton of Callaway and grandsons, Shane Newton and Shane's best friend Micki Blackburn Of Callaway and Travis, his wife Tina and their children Treyvin and Timaree Newton, all of Kearney as well as her beloved and best friend Christi, the grey tabby.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Claude who died in an automobile accident in Ames, Iowa in December 1935, her husband Bill Newton and son Denny.
Special mention is given to Dixie G'Schwind who for the last many years has visited her almost every day to deliver mail and has been there for her and allowed her to live at home for over 87 years. She loved and appreciated all of the many cousins and other friends who she had known her entire life.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with Reverend Roger Gillming officiating.
Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.
Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at the Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, the Callaway Good Samaritan Center or the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, Nebraska.
