She met George M. Winkler while in school. She departed Arkansas as a young lady traveling with the family of her brother, Hardy Harp (#101330450), and other siblings. During the trip to Oregon, she and George eloped from the wagon train and returned to it shortly after they were married. Along the way, some of the Harps stayed in the Boise valley while the Winklers continued on and arrived at Indian Valley, (then Washington County) Idaho on August 6, 1878. Her parents traveled west a few years later and arrived and settled in Council in 1881.
