Thos. N. Bethards.
One by one they cross the river, but in rapid succession. The procession halts not, but is like and endless chain ever moving upward. Today we are active and intent on the things of this life, tomorrow we have been ferried across the dark water, and the places that once knew up, know us no more forever.
Monday Thos. Bethards was about town as usual, and appeared well, but near sundown he dropped dead, a most unexpected shock to his family and friends.
He was nearly seventy four years of age and was born in Maryland, but came with his parents to this state when two years old. He has six brothers and two sisters living, all in this county save one brother. He has one brother dead. He has apparently been a vigorous man, with no known ailments. For many years he was a farmer living five miles a little north of east of Shelbina, but a few years ago he moved to town. He was an honest, upright, good citizen, friend and neighbor; and he leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. His son William, and daughter, Miss Lulu, live in Shelbina, Mrs. George Grissom of Clarence and Mrs. Thad Thomas of Oklahoma are his other daughters.
The funeral will take place at the residence this morning at 10:30, conducted by Dr. T. H. B. Anderson.
