Born Oct. 12, 1922, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Ollie and Ora (Gilley) Jones. She married Wilson Lee Downs on May 17, 1941, at the Shoals Holiness Church parsonage, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1998.
Joyce was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She was very famous for her homemade noodles. She worked at Loogootee Textile and was a janitor for Shoals Community Schools. She attended the Shoals Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Betty Downs of Shoals, Jim and Genoma Downs of Washington, Tom and Audie Downs and Bob and Donna Downs , all of Shoals, nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, a half sister, Aline Swanson, and a half brother, Herschel Cissell.
