Composer, Orchestra Leader. He was known as the "Father of the American Band." He wrote "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and was Bandmaster for the U.S. Army during the Civil War. After the war, he organized "monster peace jubilees" of thousands of musicians and over 10,000 voices.
