Roman Catholic Saint. One of seven saints in the Roman Catholic and Orthodox church of the same name. Valentine was said to have been one of three siblings, the others being saints Engratia and Fructus, born to a wealthy family in Sepulveda, Spain. Upon the death of their parents, they sold all their worldly goods, donated the money to the poor, and retired to a hermit's existence in the mountains. Tradition has it that Valentine and Engratia were martyred around 715 by the Moors. He should not be confused with the more famous saint of the same name martyred some five centuries previously. His feast day is October 25.
